Temporary Time Out

My dad has been dealing with ADDITIONAL complications from his diabetes for the last two months.  Uncoincidentally, that’s why I started this save-my-life blog.  He found out that he had an infection in his foot two months ago.  The VA sent him home without really attending him.  They said, “Put on some lotion and keep your foot elevated.”   My dad isn’t dumb.  He knew something was wrong so he went back.  Again, they sent him home.  Finally he drove himself to a REGULAR emergency room and they admitted him right away.  HELLO!  After they did a culture test, turns out that the infection under the skin was already black.  So, he spent a month in the hospital with his foot in a hyperbaric chamber to help draw out the infection.   When I visited him his foot looked nasty.

After a month, he was discharged and things seemed fine.  Last week he called me to say he was back in the hospital, that his infection had come back and this time it had spread into the bone.  That was bad news to hear.

Yesterday, my dad lost his leg from his shin down.  I’m sad, I’m scared, and I’m mad as hell.  This could have been prevented if the VA would have taken his condition seriously the FIRST time he went in.

I don’t want to end up like my dad.  My resolve to get my weight down and keep it off and spend the rest of my natural days loving my wife, my kids and my friends/family has thickened.  So, I’m taking a few days off from blogging to spend time with my dad in Arizona.  HOWEVER!  I’m not taking a single day off from eating better, watching my protions and watching what I put into my mouth.

People…friends…please.  Take action now.  You don’t want your kids to watch you the way I’m watching my dad.
