Soda and Poop

One of the hardest things for me to eliminate from my diet was diet soda.  It was harder than quitting smoking.  I had been drinking it along side my dad for years.  I think he’s the one who got me hooked on it.  I’ve never seen a day go by without my dad reaching for his Big Gulp.  The bigger the ounces grew over the years, the happier he became. I was right there with him. 

Another reason it’s been hard for me to quit is because I like to drive.  A lot.  It makes me happy.  When we do drive I’m often the one at the wheel and Tamie is at my side…for awhile.  She falls asleep when we hit the road as easily as a baby in a rocker.  To keep me awake and alert, I would grab my cup of ice cold soda.  Face it, it stays cold longer than water and it keeps the hand and mind occupied.  I just liked it.

And that’s why was so hard to quit.  Here’s how I finally did it:  I had been bombarded with bad news about diet soda starting around September of ‘09.  Of course I was rolling my eyes at most of what I was hearing because now days, EVERYTHING is bad for you.  But here’s something that opened my eyes: Most diet sodas contain Aspartame.  It is known as “The Silent Killer“.  I discovered that Aspartame mimics Lupis, MS and other deabilitating illnesses.  Did you know that it’s even used as an effective ant poison?!  Here’s a few facts a Dr. and a Nutritionist shared with me about diet soda and Aspartame: 

  • It takes 34 EXTRA chemicals to turn regular soda into diet.

  • Contains acids that cause cavities.  (To Dentist: I told you I brushed and flossed!)

  • Is the common denominator for over 92 different health symptoms at the root of modern disease.

  • 48% of Fast Food restaurants tested (which ones haven’t been tested yet?!!) contain fecal matter on their soda fountains. 

THAT is disgusting!  Tamie had been after me for years to give up drinking diet soda and switch to tea (aka, liquid wood) and water.  After learning about the chemicals IN the soda and the disgusting findings of poop on soda fountains was enough to say NO MAS!!!!

    meh, there’s fecal matter on everything… people need to start washing their hands more frequently. but good for you for kicking your crack. diet soda has always been disgusting and avoided like the plague. happy to hear that i’ve been doing the right thing.

    (now if i can only get myself to drink tea)

    Dude, fecal matter is just gross and if it’ll help me quit crack…er…soda…wait. That just sounds crazy “If fecal matter will help me…” Issues, man. Issues.

    Arizona Green Tea is pretty good. Have you tried that?
